Springfield weekend
Saturday was the short track and I fast qualified the first round. I felt really good and was 2nd in the next round. I was on pole the 2nd heat and got a holeshot when a big pile up happened in the back pack. It had also started raining again and was cancelled. The mile didn't look to promising the next day but we got it in just before dark. I was 2nd fast qualifier in both rounds and felt awesome. My bike handled great and even though it wasn't the fastest,I could ride around the top of the track and pass. I finished 4th in my heat after battling every lap with Carr,Kopp, McCoy. I passed them every turn, only to be drafted down the straights. It was exciting and I gained alot of new fans. I had a problem with my bike jumping out of gear at Indy on the line and it happened again. Not only did I get dead last off the line, but on lap 3 or 4, I felt the bike running on one cylinder. I ran the whole race, passed a few riders and a few more broke which left me in 12th. I felt like I could have finished top five if my bike had been ok. I went back to the short track on Monday and was fast again in the first round. The track got really dry slick and I fell to 9th overall in qualifying. I got the holeshot in my heat and Bonsey crashed on the line, bringing out the red flag. I did not get a good start the 2nd time and was running 4th-5th when a red flag came out again. The track was so dry and unsafe, they stopped and watered. third time, I got another holeshot and finished 2nd after Kopp got by when I went wide one lap. I made the front row and dash. I got banged around a little in turn one of the main and was 7th, passed into 5th and ran there the whole race until the last lap when Sammy Halbert bumped me in the turn and knocked me back to 6th. This is my best singles finish and we were all pleased with the day, especially after such a heart breaker on the mile. My dad actually saw the bike launch and then jump out of gear this time- we will have to replace some parts and hopefully resolve this issue. [He had tak en it apart after Indy but couldn't find anything really wrong.] Thanks again to all my sponsors for a great year. I consisently finished in the top 5 in twins when I had no bike issues and needed a little better luck in the singles, but definitely improved from last year. My dad promised me two pro years and I am trying to put together a new twins deal for 2010.
Thanks again, Matt #20
